SELF-TAPE Sunday

When: TBC

Who is it for: Recent Graduates from 2018-2021

Where: The Redbridge Drama Centre, London, E18 2RB

Price: £10

Got a scene you've always wanted to tape? Want to workshop it before filming? Do you want an actor off-screen to read as your scene partner?

Self-Tape Sunday is a workshop for recent graduates to workshop & record a scene of your choice.

The aim is to workshop the scenes and bring them to life prior to recording the tape. This is an opportunity to work on the text, then finally film that scene you've always wanted to try, paired with another recent graduate to be your reader.

(Please note that this session will be facilitated by The Silver Lining with a focus on exploring the text rather than teaching self-tape techniques. We're sure you've got that down already!)

We will spend the first half of the session dissecting the scenes, running exercises such as improvisation and repetition all whilst pumping life into the text. Following a lunch break, in the second half of the session we will record the self-tapes one at a time with a professional self-tape set up (with the reader off-screen). Whilst others are recording you will have the opportunity to network and meet a range of like-minded recent graduates until it's your turn to film.

What scene shall I bring with me?

The scene must be 1-2 minutes long with no more than 3 characters involved in the scene. The extract can be from any film, TV series or play! If you're struggling to find one we recommend looking on BBCIPlayer, ITVHub, DramaOnline, 40D or it can be a self-written piece. The aim is to give you the control over what piece you do, this may be a casting bracket that you're not getting seen for or a character that you've always wanted to try.

In order to get the most out of the workshop we recommend that you are off book, however this is not a necessity. Please bring along 2 copies of the text, one for yourself and one for your reader. We will be using these copies in the workshop (if you do not have access to a printer, let us know at least 24 hours before the workshop so we can print off your sides).

The Filming

The Self-tape will be filmed on an Iphone 11 with a professional standard selftape set up. The scene will be sent over to you at the end of the session for you to add to your library of content.

What shall I wear?

Something comfortable that you can move in. If you’d like to bring a specific top that your character would wear for the filming then there will be a changing facility at the Redbridge Drama Centre.

Who's running the session?

This workshop will be run by Molly Walker. She will be running exercises for you to flex those acting muscles, most of which will be practices explored during your training.

How do I get there?

The nearest tube station is South Woodford on the Central Line, from there the Redbridge Drama Centre is a 10 min walk or 5 min bus. There is a Tesco Express nearby and a social space to eat lunch.
